Anti-Spyware Coalition Joins Anti-Spyware Amicus Brief, along with a Wide Range of Groups and Companies
The Anti-Spyware Coalition has joined a brief that argues anti-spyware vendors should be protected by the liability protections afforded other filtering companies under the Communications Decency Act. The brief was joined by a broad spectrum of Internet and technology industry groups, public interest organizations, civil liberties groups and individual companies that are all committed to the proposition that users should be empowered to control their own Internet experiences. The brief urges the court to protect anti-spyware vendors from liability in cases brought to intimidate anti-spyware vendors into ignoring spyware.

The Anti-Spyware Coalition has released the working report of its newest document, Considerations in Anti-Spyware Product Testing. Members hope that it will help make the process of Anti-Spyware product testing more transparent.

The Anti-Spyware Coalition released the draft of its Considerations for Anti-Spyware Product Testing document for public comment on March 6th, 2008. Fourth Public Workshop Highlights Changes in Spyware
The Anti-Spyware Coalition's fourth public meeting, Spyware: What's Worked, What's Left, and What's Coming, was held in Washington D.C. on January 31st, 2008. The meeting featured panels exploring the changing nature of spyware. As consumers become better able to protect themselves online, spyware has become increasingly malicious.

The Anti-Spyware Coalition has announced their fourth Public Workshop, to be held January 31st, 2008 in Washington DC. The workshop will focus on the history and future of spyware. The workshop is titled Spyware: What's Worked, What's Left, and What's Coming and the agenda is now online.
The Public Workshop will discuss the many successes in combatting spyware, as well as providing expert opinions on the next challenges in the spyware field. We are looking forward to discussing the future of Anti-Spyware as well as what has led to success thus far.

Anti-Spyware Coalition Announces Revised Documents
The Anti-Spyware Coalition met to revise and update their Definitions, Glossary and Risk Model documents, releasing them on November 19th, 2007. These documents reflect the changing landscape of the anti-spyware field and the progress that has been made in combatting spyware. As is the case with all ASC publications, the definitions and risk modeling description are living documents, designed to grow and change in response to technological developments. Public comment on these documents is encouraged, and will help us to update them in the future.
Anti-Spyware Coalition Endorses Cyber-Security Month
The Anti-Spyware Coalition has endorsed the National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which aims to instruct the public on simple and effective security precautions that they can take to stay safe online. This year's theme is "How to secure your computer and information in a Web 2.0 world", with various educational events throughout the United States.

The Anti-Spyware Coalition announced plans for their third Public Workshop, to be held June 27, 2007 at Harvard University Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Spyware expert Steve Gibson and domestic violence victim advocate Cindy Southworth will provide keynote addresses. The ASC is seeking speaker suggestions from the public, and registration for the event is now open.

After a month-long public comment period, the Anti-Spyware Coalition released final working reports of both the Best Practices and Conflict Resolution documents on March 15, 2007. Both documents are now available from the Documents page.

The Anti-Spyware Coalition hosted it's second public workshop in Ottawa, Ontario on May 16, 2006. Many speakers from private industry, public interest groups and the governments of a few nations spoke at the event. Audio recordings of the keynotes and panels were taken and are now available linked from the workshop's agenda.

The public were able to meet face to face with the members of the Coalition, and many prominent members of the community, from anti-spyware vendors, advertising companies, and academia, spoke on panels dealing with many diverse issues.

After receiving many public comments and carefully reviewing the draft document, the Anti-Spyware Coalition has released the Final Working Report of the Risk Model Description.

After an extensive public comment period and review, the Anti-Spyware Coalition has released the Final Working Report of the Spyware Definitions. In addition, ASC has released a number of supporting documents, including a Vendor Dispute Resolution Process, a Glossary and a set of Safety Tips for Users.
A summary of the almost 400 comments used to help finalize the Report is also available for review.
